February 9, 2023The Hidden Gems of Hidden Lake Park, Milpitas
February 9, 2023Deep in the heart of Milpitas lies The Dragon Mountain or Thien Long Son, an extraordinary 360-acre park built to connect Vietnamese expatriates with nature and honor their culture. Among its captivating attractions is a serene hiking trail offering breathtaking views of Silicon Valley, as well as statues venerating Buddhism, Catholicism and influential figures from Vietnam’s past.
Keith Ngo’s vision of providing a communal space to celebrate their heritage in a natural setting came alive when he opened the park in 2014. It is now an idyllic destination for hikers, families and tourists alike as they find solace among its lush greenery and take comfort in several temples, shrines, libraries, praying rooms and even hammocks! Here visitors can relax under the sun while taking advantage of all that this beautiful locale has to offer.
Since opening the park, Ngo says he’s seen thousands of people from all over the world come to the park for picnics and other activities. It’s also home to a Vietnamese cultural center, which hosts workshops and classes for youth, seniors and other groups. Ngo has struggled to keep the park open despite repeated land use and permit violations by Santa Clara County. He claims county officials are delaying and stonewalling his efforts to fix the citations. Those who’ve visited the park say it’s worth the trip out to Milpitas. It’s a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley, and it has something for everyone.
There are plenty of trails for hiking, and a free shuttle takes you from one parking lot to the other. During the weekends, it’s usually packed with people who want to enjoy the scenic views and a free lunch. The park is a beautiful spot to enjoy nature and take a break from the city, and it’s perfect for a family outing or an afternoon with friends. It’s a great place to go for a quick and relaxing stroll, and you can eat a free lunch on the way back from the temples. It’s a great spot to have a picnic or just sit and read a book. It’s not too big, so you can really take your time and enjoy the scenery and your surroundings.
Finally, The Dragon Mountain or Thien Long Son is a stunning and unique park that offers visitors a chance to reconnect with their heritage, enjoy the outdoors and gain some insight into Vietnamese culture. With its breathtaking views and calming atmosphere, it’s definitely worth the visit if you’re ever in the area. Whether you’re looking for an escape from the city or a place to enjoy Vietnamese culture, The Dragon Mountain is the perfect destination.
